Honey Packaging Label Design for Swazey Farms – Modern Farm Branding

Honey Packaging Label Design for Swazey Farms – Modern Farm Branding

Project Overview

Swazey Farms, a family-owned and veteran-operated bee farm in New Jersey, required a custom packaging label design for their raw wildflower honey and related products. The goal was to create a label that reflects their values — local authenticity, education, sustainability, and craftsmanship — while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic that stands out on shelves.

The design needed to balance a humble, farm-rooted identity with a polished, contemporary look. It also had to incorporate key certifications such as Jersey Fresh and Homegrown by Heroes, reinforcing trust, credibility, and regional pride.

Execution Process

  • Brand Discovery:
Explored the farm’s story, focusing on their family-operated roots, veteran ownership, and commitment to bee education and environmental awareness. Identified key themes of authenticity, community, and natural purity to guide the visual direction.
  • Layout & Typography:
Developed a structured, symmetrical label layout inspired by traditional farm emblems while maintaining modern clarity. Chose bold yet approachable typography to ensure legibility and shelf presence, with clear hierarchy for product name, origin, and certifications.
  • Visual Strategy:
Created a honeycomb-inspired background pattern to subtly reinforce the product’s origin. Integrated illustrative elements such as bees, honey dippers, and farm iconography to tell a cohesive visual story.
Used a navy and golden honey color palette to evoke trust, quality, and warmth. Carefully placed certification badges and a QR code to maintain balance while enhancing credibility and functionality.
  • Production:
Delivered a print-ready label design optimized for jar application, ensuring proper scaling, alignment, and readability. The design was built to extend across product variations (wildflower, creamed honey, varietals), maintaining brand consistency while allowing flexibility for future packaging expansions.
