This project was created for a reflective coach in the human services field who visualizes ideas in powerful metaphors and needed those “thought pictures” translated into tangible graphics. The goal was to develop a symbolic illustration that captures the essence of reflective coaching — connection, guidance, emotional safety, and discovery.
The concept centered around a lantern representing Wonder and Curiosity, held by the coach who stands slightly ahead yet never in front — illuminating possible paths for the client without directing or overpowering them. This narrative required a visual language that was warm, supportive, and metaphorically rich, while remaining clean and modern.
Brand Discovery:
Explored the client’s coaching philosophy and the emotional landscape they navigate with their clients. Identified key symbolic anchors such as illumination, guidance, companionship, and non-hierarchical leadership. Discussed the imagery of “many paths,” “shadowed spaces,” and “ethereal possibilities” to understand the depth behind the narrative.
Layout & Typography:
Developed a balanced illustration structure where the lantern serves as the focal point. Selected clear, bold typography for the words WONDER and CURIOSITY, ensuring they read as powerful thematic pillars. Designed the layout to expand naturally into future scenes involving two figures and multiple pathways.
Visual Strategy:
Created a warm, radiant aesthetic through golden light rays emanating from the lantern — symbolizing insight, awareness, and exploration. Used clean vector shapes and soft angles to ensure the illustration remains friendly and approachable. The lantern was intentionally stylized to feel both grounded and metaphorical, serving as the central narrative device.
Production:
Delivered the final illustration in a high-resolution digital format suitable for coaching materials, print resources, workshop slides, and future expansion into more complex scenes (two women holding hands, branching paths, metaphorical landscapes, etc.). Provided a flexible visual base to continue building additional “thought picture” illustrations as the coaching brand evolves.
